In 2009…..

In 2009…..

….The Grime rate has gone through the roof!

This year has been a great year for Devlin but 2010 is set to be an even better for the young Outaker.

It’s been a good year for Grime in general. Aside from crossover artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Tinchy Stryder and Chipmunk topping the charts and becoming huge superstars; the underground scene has produced some great music, artists like Ghetts, Griminal, P Money, Dot Rotten, Tempz and the ever -present Wiley have kept the scene moving in a positive direction.

Some other acts that have made a significant impact in 2009 are Bloodline’s Big H who had one of the biggest releases of the year with Street Crime UK, ColdBlooded’s RV aka Revolver made his intentions clear with the release of Grime Son and Cruel Intentions and finally Maxsta, the leader of the new school, who has shown he’s someone to look out for next year. More recently Grime has seen the return of the IOD veteran ‘Taliban’ Trim who’s launched a late attack with his latest mixtape Monkey Features.

Grimes competitive nature seems to have taken a back seat this year as more artists focus on producing good music but that’s not to say mc’s have stopped sending. Ghetts and P Money have spent the best part of a year trading blows, we had Maxsta Vs Marvel, Griminal and Tempz haven’t seen eye to eye, Bloodline have been poking fun at Roll Deep and North London’s Cookie has come back to revive his beef with Scorcher. 2010 will see the temperature rise again as emcees face off for the long awaited third instalment of Lord Of The Mics but that’s not all we have to look forward to in the New Year.

Next year we have some massive releases to look forward to. Ghetts has two releases ready to go; The Calm Before The Storm will precede his debut album entitled Rebel With A Cause. Wiley and Skepta both plan to release their latest projects in the next year. The Elusive will be the next in a long line of projects from the godfather of Grime and Skepta’s Been There Done That sounds like it might be his best release to date.

Here’s a list of some of the other releases coming in 2010.

There’s no doubt one of the most anticipated releases of 2010 will be Devlin’s Bud, Sweat & Beers. This will be Devlin’s third release and it’s sure to be the biggest and best of them all. London City has been Devlin’s most successful song to date and Community Outcast 09 has shown some of Devlin’s new found fans what made him such a underground icon.

Devlin’s latest single Giant sees him step the levels up again. Giant’s polished video directed by Luke Biggins shows Devz and singer Cruz performing this high energy track to a crowd of frantic fans. Devlin’s lyrical ability is there for all to hear as he explains why he’s a giant in the grime world and beyond.

With the influx of slick new videos, and with Devlin leading the pack of a batch of highly anticipated mixtapes and albums being released in the New Year; 2010 is expected to be one of the biggest years for grime music to date.

Stay tuned.
